Processing Speed Differences
Processing speed is about how quickly someone can take in, understand, and respond to information — whether that’s spoken, written, visual, or emotional.
Some people process things quickly. Others take more time — especially when there’s a lot happening at once, or when the topic is complex or emotionally charged.
This is common in neurodivergent people, including those with ADHD, autism, or dyslexia. It’s not a measure of intelligence — someone with slower processing may have incredibly deep or creative insights, they might just need more time to get there.
Quick processors aren’t automatically better either. Sometimes speed can lead to missing nuance or jumping to conclusions.
Being aware of processing speed differences helps reduce pressure and misunderstanding. It also helps create environments where people can pause, reflect, and respond in their own time — which can lead to richer, more thoughtful conversations and decisions.
